On the 3rd June 2016 the Metropolitan Police Service will be launching a new style of protective security operation in Central London, deploying over 100 officers into part of Westminster. This is a security operation, called Operation Aegis, this will be part of the daily, routine, operations undertaken to protect London.
Officers on the operation will engage with local communities and encourage them to report suspicious people and activity.
Specially trained plain clothes officers who will be deployed alongside uniform officers to detect offenders.
Businesses, including private security companies and wardens are encouraged to speak to officers and make themselves visible.
A large number of the officers have been brought in from other London Boroughs.
More operations are planned to take place across London and this is a developing tactic, in future they will be looking to contact businesses and security companies in advance to see how they can work together during this activity.
