The Blackwall Tunnel is currently closed to northbound traffic, and it is expected to remain closed for the rest of today. A large spillage of fuel and hydraulic fluid occurred earlier this morning, which has made the tunnel unsafe to use.

The spillage has affected around three quarters of the length of the tunnel. Contractors are currently on-site and are working quickly to clear the spillage and resurface the road, so that we can re-open the tunnel.

We apologise if your journey has been affected today. Please avoid the area and allow extra time for your journey. You can follow @TfLTrafficNews on Twitter for the latest information or visit tfl.gov.uk/traffic

Yours sincerely,
