“CRIME PREVENTATHON”

This week, Westminster Police supported by colleagues from Roads & Transport Command and Westminster City Council will be holding a 24 hour ‘Crime Preventathon’.

From around midday Friday 26th February into Saturday 27th, local police & partners will undertake a range of activity to help raise awareness of how residents, businesses and tourists can help us make Westminster an ever safer place to live, work or visit.

As well as helping to educate people, the initiative is also designed to further increase local community engagement and confidence. During 2015, Westminster Police has already seen local confidence ratings rocket with 80% of residents surveyed now believing that the ‘local police do a good job’. This is due to a range of measures in terms of how we listen & respond to anti-social behaviour and promoting community solidarity using schemes like ‘Faith Watch’ and #WeStandTogether.

Chief Inspector Sean McDermid said “Since 2011/12, Westminster has seen around a 17% reduction in crime but we have much more to do. Although Westminster is an exceptionally safe place, we all have responsibility to further reduce & prevent crime, and make it harder for criminals to operate”.

In advance of the events on Friday and Saturday, we would like to advertise the following current public events for people to attend. Other localised activities may also be publicised by the relevant Safer Neighbourhood Teams supported by their Ward Chairs and Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators.
